TYOs Business Enterprise Competition
Paddy Farrelly, Tim Elliot, Nicky Bond and Jonathon Atkinson represented Wesley College in the TYO Business Enterprise competition held in DCU over 3 days. The competition was run by Bank of Ireland. Paddy Farrelly went on to win the competition. Here is summary of the 3 days, written by Paddy.
“Bank of Ireland held a TY Academy competition in DCU. The idea of the competition was to come up with a business idea that linked in with one of the 17 sustainable goals. Myself and 5 other students went to DCU for 3 days to participate. We were split up into different teams with people from different schools to come up with an idea. My groups idea was a GPS tracking device for people with dementia. We spent 3 days creating a PowerPoint and at the end of the 3rd day we presented our idea to the judges. We were lucky enough to win the competition out of 18 groups. Each group member was given a €200 one4all voucher which was a great prize.”

The Business Dept. had its 1st ever inspection during the month over a 4-day period. It was very interesting to get feedback on what is working well and what can be improved upon.
The Student Enterprise Competition begins its 25th year in the school. This year it looks like we will have the largest number of entries ever, over 70. Pupils should be preparing prototypes for market research for their business ideas. Please no food items!!!
